Body small, compressed and slender (the largest one less than 30mm long); back a bit convex, pelvic scute absent; head small; snout blunt; mouth small, lip thin and lower jaw a bit protruded; barbell absent; eyes large and located in front section of head; scales large, along lateral axis of body 30-32, lateral line unclear; dorsal fin short and opposite anal fin, pectoral and pelvic fins small and caudal fin forked. Color of the body green, with golden vertical zones on central axis of body and a number of dark lines above zones; dorsal and anal fins green and with transparent edge; base of caudal fin with large red round spots.

The fish stayed mostly in clear and slow-moving mountain brooks. It was lively and full of activity. Though a fish living in southern warm waters, it could endure cold. When the water temperature fell to 5℃，it could still lead a normal life. It was a tiny fish feeding on various foods, but mainly on plankton and humus.
